Before Moving, Make These Five Home Refurbishments

You have just completed the purchase of a home and are getting ready to move in. It is a thrilling time, and you cannot wait to start planning your new space and unpacking your belongings. The thought of renovating your home is the last thing on your mind. You are not in the mood to spend more money on the plumbing system or a bathroom remodel right now. Does this ring a bell?

Actually, before you move in, is the best time to create a home improvement checklist. Before you bring in your furniture and stuff your suitcases, make sure you have enough space. Before bringing your family into a potentially dangerous home.

If you have recently purchased a new home, there are a few things you should do before moving in:

Change the Locks

Probably the simplest but most crucial step. When a house is for sale, many people receive duplicate keys. The property owner, real estate agents, and maintenance/repair workers are all involved. You also have no idea who gave a spare set to the previous occupants. It is safer to simply replace the locks. If the house has a security system, remember to change the code.

Inspect the System of Plumbing

Before you buy a house, have it inspected by a reputable plumber to ensure that all pipes and fittings are in good working order. Before moving in is the second-best time to get this inspection done if you did not do it before, perhaps under the assumption that you did not need to. Keep an eye out for moisture stains and have the plumber show you where the main water shut-off valve is located. This knowledge will come in handy in the future.

Get the Walls and Flooring Fixed

You may never see your walls and floors uncovered again after you move into your home. Take advantage of the time before you move to clean up scuff marks and scratches and make any necessary repairs.

Check for Faults in Electrical Fixtures

Another thing you might have done prior to closing on the house is this. However, a second round of checks is not a bad idea; you might have missed something the first time around. Make sure the house’s electrical system is in good working order. Replace the heating and cooling filters, as well as the batteries in the smoke detectors.

Invest in Major Renovations

Are your bathrooms in desperate need of a makeover? Maybe the kitchen needs to be remodelled, or you are thinking about repainting the entire house. Before you move in, finish any major renovations. Yes, it is a significant investment, but consider how happy your partner and children will be when they move into a spotless home. And, since you are going to make these changes anyway, why not do it now?

Hopefully, the prospect of sprucing up your home excites you as much as the prospect of relocating. You are unlikely to be able to complete all of these tasks on your own, so hire professionals to handle your electrical and plumbing projects, as well as wall repairs and lock changes.
